Homes are selling faster - time to sell drops in 19 of 21 counties
13 October 2026

After several years of a sluggish housing market where buyers and sellers struggled to find common ground, there are now signs of renewed momentum. The time to sell is decreasing in 19 of the country's 21 counties, and across the nation as a whole, the average selling time fell by six days in September compared to the same month last year.
In September, it took an average of 26 days to sell a home. That is six days faster than in September of last year.
Stockholm stands out, as usual, with the shortest selling times. There, selling a home took an average of 18 days in September, a five-day decrease compared to the same month last year.
Selling times increased in only two of the country's 21 counties: Västernorrland and Kronoberg. Kronoberg is also the county where it currently takes significantly longer than anywhere else to sell a home. In September, the average selling time there was 85 days.
Compared to the market's peak years, however, selling times remain relatively long. In the spring of 2021, the average selling time was down to around two weeks.
The relaxed credit restrictions introduced this past spring have had a major impact on this development. It has become easier for buyers and sellers to reach agreements, which has driven up transaction volumes and contributed to faster property deals.
Erik Holmberg, Market Analyst at Hemnet, comments:
"After several years of a cautious and frequently sluggish housing market, activity has returned. The eased credit requirements in the spring gave the market additional momentum, and we are now seeing the large inventory of unsold homes starting to clear. As supply decreases, competition rises for the properties coming onto the market, which also leads to shorter selling times. The big question now is whether this trend will hold as the risk of higher interest rates has once again increased."
