Hemnet’s Buyer Barometer May 2024: Strong belief in rising property prices among buyers

In the Hemnet’s Buyers Barometer in May, the belief in rising property prices has increased further among buyers. There are now 46 percent of buyers who believe that property prices will increase the next six months. This is an increase of 2 percentage points compared to the corresponding survey in April.
At the same time, 13 percent who stated that they believe prices will decrease. This is the same level as last month. Overall, this means a net difference (the difference between those who believe in increasing and decreasing prices) of 34 percent, an increase of 1 percentage point since April.
The belief in increasing property prices is still strongest in Stockholm. The net difference there was +46 percentage points in May. This is an increase of 8 percentage points since April and thus at the same level as the historic high level we had in May 2021. Only 8 percent of buyers in Stockholm stated that they believe prices will fall in the next six months. This is the lowest level since the Hemnet’s Buyer Barometer begun in 2017.
Percentage of buyers expecting:
Increasing prices: 46.3 percent (44.7% in the previous month)
Decreasing prices: 12.7 percent (12.4% in the previous month)
Unchanged prices: 41.0 percent (42.9% in the previous month)
Erik Holmberg, market Analyst at Hemnet, commented:
“The relatively strong market we have seen so far in the spring continued in April. Prices continue to rise, which was to be expected due to the high price expectations of buyers. These expectations are now reinforced even further in May, and an policy rate decision by the Central Bank is also due to later this week, which could further support the price trend”
Hemnet’s Buyers’ Barometer went out to 2,130 respondents between 1 and 6 May.
